About the Artist

Welcome to my page,

My name is Emily, also known as playtimelyre over on Instagram

I am a multidisciplinary artist from the UK who enjoys creating work that involves painting, sculpture, photography, videography, performance and installations.
With a keen interest in collaborative work and audience involvement.

My current body of work has been focused on painting clowns, jesters, fools and makeup artists. Exploring how people communicate and express themselves within the public eye.

For the past five years I have been embedded in these communities of artists and performers. Working with gouache, oils and acrylic paint to bring their physical characters to life through traditional portraiture.

My painting style is impressionistic, using expressive marks to create the forms while keeping a playful yet attentive focus on the relationship between colours within a piece. Colours play an important role in my work to convey performance and help to emulate the experience of the subject.
